Weighing In on Cheating...

Well, it’s time to weigh-in. My last weigh-in was on Monday, my birthday. And did you send a birthday card? No….I got only two birthday cards; one from my financial advisor and one from my insurance agent! But I’m not bitter…..I repeat…I am NOT BITTER! LOL! My birthday was fine….plenty of well wishes on Facebook, and my brother and his wife sent me an amazon gift card, with which I’ll purchase something totally impractical! Maybe next year, they’ll send me some liposuction!

…which brings me back to today. If you recall, gentle readers, on my last weigh-in I gained two pounds, which I attributed to water weight gain. To be honest, I was a little apprehensive about stepping on the scales this morning. What if I gained more weight?! Believe you me, I worked and planned; that was NOT going to happen. I counted my calories as usual, watched my sodium intake (sodium causes you to retain water), and drank glass after glass of water yesterday.

And I stepped on the scales…

About drinking water…if you don’t stay hydrated, your body thinks you’re in the middle of the Sahara…so it holds onto water as a means of survival. But if you drink plenty of water, your body chills out and you shed water (so long as your sodium intake is low). Yikes, so much to monitor, which is why liposuction sounds more and more appealing with each passing day!

And I stepped on the scales…

I also spent a fair amount of time tending to my morning bathroom ritual, if you know what I mean…and I’m sure you do. So, yes, I was very concerned about stepping on the scales. I stripped off every stitch of clothing (except my eye-glasses, because I’m blind!). If I had dentures (I’m not that old yet!) and a glass eye, I would have removed them too! Anything to lighten the load!

And I stepped on the scales…

Now, you have to understand….Friday is my one cheat day of the week, a day on which I allow myself to eat whatever I want. I believe (and I am not a professional dietician!) that you need to have one cheat day a week, to help with your metabolism. Like the Sahara example above, if you reduce you caloric intake (which you have to do to lose weight), your body starts thinking you’re experiencing a famine….so your metabolism slows down to help you survive. But if you have one “Day of Plenty,” your body keeps your metabolism going at its usual rate. Got it? Good. And I don’t really gorge on my cheat day; maybe I’ll have an extra cocktail or something decadent like…BREAD!

And I stepped on the scales…

Because if my weight went up again, I really wouldn’t enjoy my cheat day as much…

And I stepped on the scales…

229.4!

A weight loss of 4.2 pounds, which means I lost 2.1 pounds a week during the last couple of weeks! It was water weight gain last week! All told, I’ve almost nearly 14 pounds.

Sounds silly, but I am proud of myself.

Now, about that birthday card that you NEVER SENT!!
